Raise Your Voice for Separation!

Dear AU Members & Supporters,

After wrapping up business in Washington, members of Congress will soon head home for a summer recess.  Since this year is an election year and the campaign season is in full swing, this August is the perfect time to ask current and potential members of Congress where they stand on church-state issues.

Visit www.au.org/august_action_2008 for questions on several separation issues that you can ask current members of Congress and congressional candidates at town hall meetings and other public events. You may also wish to ask these questions in letters to the editor, or in calls to local radio and TV shows that take questions from the audience.  The questions come with brief background notes and links to more in-depth information.  In addition to getting candidates to share their views, asking these questions demonstrates that voters value church-state separation.

The best way to find out where and when public appearances are planned by your members of Congress is to contact their offices and ask.  Sometimes town hall meetings and public appearances are scheduled on short notice, so you may wish to call and check in more than once.  Click here to find contact information for your members of Congress.  You may also want to keep an eye on local media outlets for information about public events planned by congressional candidates.

Now is the time to raise your voice for separation.  Town hall meetings, campaign events, and other public appearances all provide excellent opportunities speak up.  If you would like any additional information, please contact Rena Levin at levin@au.org
